MECHANICAL DRAFTER: Under the leadership and direction of the Nightforce Mechanical Engineering Manager, this position will be involved in the creation, organization, and storage of engineering CAD files needed to maintain legacy products and launch the next generation of riflescopes and accessories for Mil-Spec and Commercial products.


  • High school diploma, required
  • Associates degree in Drafting or BSMET, preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar role, required
  • 2+ years of experience in the creation, manipulation, and optimization of 3D mechanical design assemblies with multiple configurations and complex constraints, preferred
  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor and Vault, preferred
  • Experience with CAD database and Bill of Materials management, preferred
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented
  • GD&T experience, preferred
  • Must possess the following:
    • High degree of mechanical aptitude and proficient math skills
    • Experience in reading and analyzing 2-D prints
    • Good working knowledge of MS Office applications
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
    • High regard for confidentiality
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to keep accurate records
    • Positive attitude and be highly motivated
    • Excellent technical communication skills with engineers and manufacturing personnel

Core Accountabilities:

The Mechanical CAD Drafter, as a member of the Nightforce R&D team, has a critical role in the design process. Responsibilities include generating 2D/3D parts and assembly models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials for prototypes and final production of Mil-Spec and Commercial products, to include the following:

  • Generate complete, accurate and robust 3D assembly models
  • Create 2D drawings for individual components and assemblies, including bills of materials
  • Ensure that files are stored correctly in the product data management software (Vault)
  • Train CAD users in core application skills and standards
  • Review and certify drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to NFO drafting and design standards
  • Assist in the engineering Change Order process
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Maintain, organize, and develop drawing/modeling standards
  • Identify opportunities and make recommendations for increasing workflow efficiencies
  • Assist in other related duties, as assigned
